The Charities Act 2011 came into effect on 14 March 2012. The new Act does not change the law, but replaces most of three existing Acts:
(a) the Recreational Charities Act 1958, which gave charitable status to village halls;
(b) the Charities Act 1993, which contains all the rules on charity accounting, and
(c) the Charities Act 2006.

Review of the Charities Act 2006 by Lord Hodgson of Astley Abbots published in July 2012. The Review contains a large number of recommendations, however it is not yet known if, or when, these recommendations will be implemented, thus there are no changes yet to charity accounting regulations as a result of the review.
Charitable Incorporated Organisations (CIOs) legislation implemented. The Charity Commission is now registering CIOs.
